Why is blogging so important on Google today? Well, there are a few reasons. In this blog, we will explore how creating a well-optimized blog will bring more organic traffic to your website.
What is a Blog
Simply put, a blog is an easily digestible piece of writing. They commonly take the form of a journal or informational piece. When they first came into the online scene in the 90s, they were primarily used as personal journals. Kind of like modern-day social media. However, as the internet grew so did blogging.
Blogs nowadays are primarily used by businesses to easily connect with potential customers. When people use Google to research products or services, they often read blogs. These blog articles provide the information for them to make an informed purchasing decision. Businesses use blogs to provide that information to their target audience. Showing them that they are an expert in their industry.
Google Prioritizes Blogs
Think about it. When was the last time you researched anything on Google. Did you end up on Instagram? Facebook? Or the home page of a website? You likely ended up on a website’s blog. It is likely that those blogs were well written. Providing you with the information you were looking for.
Without a current, up to date blog, Google will assume your website isn’t providing its users with valuable content. Lowering your ranking in search results. However, if your site has high-quality and active blog posts, Google will see the value of your site. Increasing your search ranking.
How Blogs Increase Traffic to Website
Having an active blog will help increase traffic to your website. When optimized for SEO, it will help people looking for products and services related to your industry find you.
Let’s say you sell premium pens and pencils. Having written content about drawing techniques, calligraphy and the cognitive benefits of handwriting will provide value to those interested in your industry. Though the readers may not purchase your products as a direct result of your blog, it will bring your target audience to your website. Increasing your brand awareness, resulting in an increase in your sales.
What Should Your Blog Be About?
Your blog should be about anything in your industry. The first blog post I wrote was for a solid tire manufacturer. This company built premium solid tires for skid steers, telehandlers, and irrigation systems. The content I wrote for them wasn’t just about how great their tires are, but rather how to fix certain issues their customers were facing. Some examples were How to Avoid Flat Tires on the Job Site, How to Determine the Best Tires For Your Machine, and How to Deal with Deep and Damaging Ruts in your Field.
These blogs weren’t about giving people a hard sale, but rather help them address issues that they were facing. Then you can suggest your product is a viable solution. Increasing the likelihood that they will look into purchasing your product. Which is where you show them how great your product really is.
How to Maintain a Blog
Quantity is equally as important as quality when it comes to blogging. The more blog articles, the better. Posting one blog a week will help your ranking on Google. However, it will take time to build up traffic. Posting 5 times a week will grow your traffic much faster. The issue is that it takes time and effort to creating high-quality blog posts. Especially if you have no experience in SEO.
That is where freelance bloggers like me come in. Freelance bloggers are people you can hire on the internet to write your blog for you. Increasing your organic traffic and internet presence. This way you can focus on other aspects of your business without worrying when you will have time to sit down and spend hours writing your next blog post.
